I Have Multiple Shopify Stores — What Should I Do?

If your brand operates more than one Shopify store, this article explains how OuterSignal handles each scenario and what setup makes sense for you.

First: understand how OuterSignal connects to Shopify

OuterSignal connects to one Shopify store per account. Each Shopify store has its own unique domain and API credentials — Shopify treats them as entirely separate databases, and OuterSignal does too.

This means if you have multiple stores, you'll need multiple OuterSignal accounts — one per store. Whether that's the right approach depends on your situation.

If your email address is associated with multiple OuterSignal accounts, you can switch between them without logging out. Go to Settings → Company → Switch Organization to toggle between your connected stores.

Scenario 1: Multiple brands on separate stores

Example: You own two separate supplement brands, each on their own Shopify store

Recommendation: Separate OuterSignal accounts — do not connect both stores to one account.

Two reasons:

  1. One Klaviyo connection per account — OuterSignal connects to one Klaviyo account at a time. If you merge two brand stores into one OuterSignal account, you can only push data to one Klaviyo account — which likely won't work if your brands have separate Klaviyo accounts.

  2. Blended personas — OuterSignal builds personas from the customers in your account. If two brands with completely different customer bases are merged into one account, your personas will reflect a blended, inaccurate picture of both audiences rather than a clear picture of either one. A fitness supplement buyer and a recovery nutrition buyer may look similar — or they may be completely different — but mixing them will dilute the signal.

What to do: Create a separate OuterSignal account for each brand, connected to its respective Shopify store. Each account will have its own Signal Feed, its own personas, and its own Klaviyo connection.

Scenario 2: Same brand, multiple regional stores

Example: You have a US store and an AU store for the same brand.

Recommendation: Separate OuterSignal accounts — one per region.

Even though it's the same brand, your US and AU stores are separate Shopify databases with separate customer records. Merging them creates the same persona-blending problem as separate brands — your US customer base and your AU customer base likely have meaningfully different demographics, personas, and behaviors.

A separate account per region also keeps your Klaviyo connections clean — if you have separate Klaviyo accounts per region, each OuterSignal account connects to the right one.

Scenario 3: One brand, one DTC store + a wholesale or B2B store

Example: You sell DTC through your main Shopify store and run a separate Shopify store for wholesale/B2B accounts.

Recommendation: Connect your DTC store only.

OuterSignal is built for consumer enrichment — finding out who your end customers are as individuals. Wholesale and B2B buyers are businesses, not consumers, and their data won't enrich the same way. Connecting your wholesale store would add noise to your Signal Feed and dilute your personas without adding meaningful value.

Connect your DTC store and leave your wholesale store disconnected.

Scenario 4: One brand with POS and online sales on the same store

Example: You sell online and also have physical retail locations, all on one Shopify store.

Recommendation: Connect your store normally — POS orders will flow in where data is available.

OuterSignal ingests orders across all sales channels on your connected Shopify store, including POS. However, there's an important caveat:

POS customers are often harder to enrich. In-store customers don't usually provide a full name, email address, or billing address at checkout — and OuterSignal needs that information to find and enrich a customer profile. POS customers may appear in your Signal Feed with limited or no enrichment as a result.

This is expected behavior, not a bug. Your online customers will have full enriched profiles. Your POS customers may appear with order data only.

One current limitation to be aware of: OuterSignal does not currently record which channel an order came from — so you can't filter your Signal Feed to show only online orders vs. POS orders.

Setting up a new store on a separate account

To connect an additional Shopify store on a new OuterSignal account:

  1. Go to outersignal.com and start a new trial

  2. When prompted to connect your store, log in through the Shopify store you want to connect

  3. Each store will have its own OuterSignal account, billing, and settings

Switching between stores If your email address is associated with multiple OuterSignal accounts, you can switch between them without logging out. Go to Settings → Company → Switch Organization to toggle between your connected stores.
